Encouraging acquisition of Spanish and other world languages

We believe America will be better served when we recognize the value of literacy and fluency in more than one world language.

By identifying and supporting students who grow up in bilingual households, and helping them become fluent and literate in more than one language, we will create future generations of skilled and globally-minded journalists, medical providers, lawyers, social service providers, teachers, translators and opinion leaders who will be compelling, confident, and multicultural communicators.

  • Our region has long benefited from its vibrant Spanish-speaking community. And now, residents from other cultures are bringing additional languages and richness to the mix.
  • In an increasingly interdependent world, we also recognize the social and economic value of helping students to master their home languages as they become fluent in English.
  • We support English language acquisition among all immigrant families, recognizing that it promotes the strength, stability and prosperity of the region and the entire country.
